blog #3

For this I chose the social media site Reddit. Reddit is a form of social media that is what is new and trending on the web. Reddit was found in June of 2005 and has since surpassed Digg in popularity. According to the FAQ’s on Reddit anyone can post a link, however, there is a limit on the posting rate to prevent spamming. The majority of the information found on Reddit is news that may or may not have made it into main stream media. People that put a submission on Reddit will get a score for each one they post. Reddit states in the FAQ’s that the score for each submission is determined by the number of upvotes minus the number of downvotes. Because there are no editors  on reddit you never know what you will find which is why certain news will start trending and youre more likely to read/see it on reddit.  Reddit is a place where you go to see what has already been found. The Reddit FAQ also states that there are Subreddits, which are sub-communities on Reddit. Each sub reddit is focused on a specific topic and new users are subscribe to the most popular sub-reddits. This site should not extinct due to its ability to help people/news to be heard when it wasn’t possible before. Many of the stories and news trending on Reddit are overall helpful to society and the news should not be based on what main stream media decides should be reported. It is a great site to gain knowledge about information that would otherwise not be available. This site also allows people to pick and choose what they feel is either important or what needs to be heard in todays society. This site will only be beneficial in the world and will ultimately be a way for anyone to have a voice.
